Adenovirus pneumonitis successfully treated with intravenous ribavirin.
Adenovirus infections are a frequent cause of severe complications in the post allogeneic bone marrow transplantation period, and to date, no established form of treatment exists. We report the case of an autologous bone marrow transplant recipient who developed adenovirus pneumonitis which was successfully treated with intravenous ribavirin.

INTRODUCTION Since 2008, severe cases of emerging human adenovirus type 55 (HAdV-55) in immunocompetent adults have been reported sporadically in China. The clinical features and outcomes of the most critically ill patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by HAdV-55 requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and/or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) ar...
متن کاملFatal pulmonary complications in an immunodeficient child with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection.
Primary Epstein-Barr virus infection in children typically presents as infectious mononucleosis and in immunocompetent individuals severe pneumonitis proves to be a rare complication. Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV) is associated with multiple life-threatening conditions, including interstitial lung disease with fibrosis and lymphoid and lymphohistiocytic infiltrations. We r...
متن کاملLessons from Mycobacterium avium complex-associated pneumonitis: a case report
INTRODUCTION Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is an increasingly recognized cause of pulmonary disease in immunocompetent individuals. An acute form of MAC lung disease, MAC-associated pneumonitis, has generally been associated with the use of hot tubs. There is controversy in the literature about whether MAC-associated pneumonitis is a classic hypersensitivity pneumonitis or is a direct manif...
متن کاملOutbreak of adenovirus type 1 severe pneumonia in a French intensive care unit, September-October 2012.
We herein describe and analyse the first outbreak of severe pneumonia caused by human adenovirus type1 (HAdV C type 1), which included immunocompetent patients in an intensive care unit (ICU) of Marseille, France, and occurred between September and October 2012. Seven successive patients were diagnosed by HAdV specific real-time polymerase chain reaction with a positive bronchoalveolar lavage. ...
